Fear of Trying Something New...What activity or sport keeps coming to mind for you?

If I couldn't do it right or perfect the first time, I didn't try it.
I didn't want to make a fool of myself, especially if others were good at "it." Rollerskating, ice skating, any sport, forget it. I told myself I didn't like it, but the reality was I used to not try anything new because of the perfectionism narrative that ran through my subconscious mind at the time.
However, if it had to do with business or my career, I was all about trying new things, mostly intuitive direction. I've been more adventurous in my adult years thank goodness. As you know when we put ourselves out of our comfort zone that is where profound growth takes place. We learn even more about what we are made of.
A gift really.
Intuitively, self defense classes kept coming to both mine and Erik's minds and so we answered the inspirational nudge.
I've been an advocate of self defense. I used to coordinate self defense classes for employers and their employees.
Erik and I shopped schools in our area and am grateful we found Elite Legacy Martial Arts We've been learning since May. I honestly didn't know what to expect. I felt like a fish out of water at first, but the instructors style of teaching, their patience, support along with the encouragement from all of our team has been just incredible. I continue to make progress, grow stronger and still don't know what I am doing half the time and I LOVE IT!!!! I am having so much fun and am laughing alot. I feel like a kid. Its been an empowering asset, a huge stress reliever and has helped with the grieving immensely.
I don't know what I love more! The people, process, community, workouts, soreness, bruises - I mean, I miss everything about it and the people when I am not in class.
Self awareness is a cornerstone for my business. Self actualization is a passion of mine and has been since I was little. Gaining even greater self awareness due to these classes is the cherry on top for me!
The three disciplines I am learning right now are karate, Krav Maga and Kickboxing. I am far from perfecting the Dachi Kata, but the journey has been a mindful one. I am grateful for the mental break from the day also. Once I am there I am only focused on what I am being taught, practicing it and getting it as close to right as possible and this gives my mind a break yet challenges it and my body at the same time....and feeling joy.
I've been a fan of MMA for 34 years. Now, not only am I a spectator, I am a participant in this art and it feels amazing in every sense.
Hopefully this inspires someone to push past fear. Try whatever it is...because those that are already great at something started exactly where you are starting from.
